Nigeria Rising Population: Buhari Should Act Fast

The All Progressives Congress Volunteers Group has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to do something about the country’s rising population.
The group at the weekend asked Buhari to come up with a policy statement or law to control birth, This Day reports.
According to Olusegun Bamgbose, the group’s national coordinator, who spoke at a news conference on Saturday, September 5, at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, it was high time the federal government did something about its population.

He explained that the issue of controlling birth needed to be looked into as a matter of urgency.
Bamgbose said: “We cannot afford to leave the population growth uncontrolled.
“Our attempts to find lasting solution to the problem of unemployment may be a mirage without controlling our population growth. In a situation where our resources are depleting, we cannot afford not to check the population growth.
“We are optimistic that the Buhari administration will make the difference, but something must be done about our population growth.”
Speaking on the fight against unemployment, the national coordinator said it would not yield much if nothing is done about the power sector.
According to him, stable power supply would attract foreign investment and reduce unemployment rate by 20 per cent.
The group also applauded President Buhari’s anti-corruption war, saying no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of corruption.
Buhari has been applauded for his anti-corruption war. At the weekend, to mark the president’s 100 days in office, the national publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had listed six things that had changed for the better since Buhari took over power.
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer cum columnist, Pascal Uche Ejikeme, popularly known as Etcetera, had graded Buhari with 5 F9’s, an A1 and a C, saying he expects the president to do more than he is
currently doing.
