Google slashes minimum app prices to way below $0.99 in 17 countries

Google has significantly reduced the minimum app prices in 17 countries to better reflect the differences in purchasing power around the world.

Until now, the minimum app price globally (save for India, where Google piloted lower prices earlier this year) was somewhere around $0.99 (in some markets, they were lower than that, but never below 50 cents). Now, developers in countries including Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine can offer their apps, as well as in-app products, at a much lower price.

The full list of new minimum app prices is as follows:

Brazil: R$0.99 ($0.26) — previously R$2.00
Chile: CLP $200.00 ($0.28)— previously CLP $500.00
Colombia: COP$ 800.00 ($0.26) — previously COP$ 2000.00
Hungary: Ft 125.00 ($0.43) — previously 225.00
Indonesia: Rp 3,000.00 ($0.22) — previously Rp 12,000.00
Malaysia: RM 1.00 ($0.23) — previously RM 3.50
Mexico: MXN$ 5.00 ($0.30) — previously MXN$ 9.90
Peru: S/. 0.99 ($0.30) — previously S/. 3.00
Philippines: ₱15.00 ($0.32) — previously ₱43.00
Poland: zł1.79 ($0.45) — previously zł2.99
Russia: руб 15.00 ($0.23) — previously руб 30.00
Saudi Arabia: 0.99 riyal ($0.26) — previously 4.00 riyal
South Africa: R3.99 ($0.28) — previously R10.00
Thailand: ฿10.00 ($0.28) — previously ฿32.00
Turkey: ₺0.59 ($0.21) — previously ₺2.00
Ukraine: ₴5.00 ($0.20) — previously ₴8.00
Vietnam: ₫6,000 ($0.27) — previously ₫21,000.00

India, which entered this program first, still has the lowest minimum price of all countries: 10 rupees, or approximately 15 cents.

Developers can lower the prices of their apps over at the Google Play Developer Console, by clicking on “Pricing & Distribution” or “In-app Products."
