Edo council boss suspended
The acting Chairman of Oredo Local Government area in Edo State, Mrs. Sweet Ikponmwosa, has
been suspended from office over inability to pay salaries and account for Internally Generated Revenue since she assumed office.
Ikponmwosa was suspended for two weeks to enable a panel of inquiry submit its report.
The embattled council boss assumed office on October 6 when the council boss, Osaro Obazee, was suspended by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Obazee was suspended for alleged inability to pay salaries, diversion of IGR and appointment of council workers without approval.
Addressing journalists on the suspension, Leader of the legislative arm, Hon Ernest Edebiri, said the acting chairman was removed by a unanimous decision of the 12 councillors.
Edebiri said the motion for the suspension was moved by Hon. Efosa Omo-Osagie representing Ward 3, while Hon. Enoghayin Obaseki seconded the motion.
Edebiri noted that the suspended acting chairman refused to appear before them when she was summoned to defend a petition written by the council secretary, Raymond Enogieru.
