8 Nigerian Athletes Fail Doping Test As They Tested Positive

Following the doping scandal that has hit the athletics world, the Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, yesterday, revealed that five of the nation’s athletes who represented her at the 2015 All Africa Games (AAG) in Brazzaville, Congo and three others who took part in the 2015 All Nigeria-AFN Championship in Warri, Delta State, have tested positive to banned
substances.

Dalung said three of them tested positive after random tests were carried out at the AAG, while two others were from out-of-competition tests, especially during the AFN Championship in Warri.

Chinazom Amadi, Samsom Idiata (athletics), Elizabeth Onuah (weightlifting), Patience Opuene and Ebi James Igbadiwei (wrestling) were tested at the AAG, while Thomas Kure (para-powerlifting) and Sunday Ezeh (para-athletics) tested positive from out-of-competition tests. Deborah Odeyemi tested positive during an in-competition drug test at the AFN championship. All the affected athletes have been banned from competing, starting from August 16, 2015.
