Virgin Australia launches its schmick new business class cabin
Most travellers will only get a glimpse of business class as they walk toward their seat in cattle class. If you were jealous before, now you'll be exploding with envy.
Virgin Australia has revealed its new international business class cabin and Economy Space + seats on Tuesday, with the first of these refitted Boeing 777-300ER's already flying across the Pacific.
If you've got the cash to drop on business class, the airline's "The Business" cabin features 37 individual and private suites that can convert into a bed, which measures 80 inches long. In good news, the seats are in a 1-2-1 configuration, meaning you won't be hopping over anyone to get to the bathroom.
A "reverse herringbone cabin layout" maximises privacy, while you can get onto those all-important spreadsheets with a "generous" console area. The in-flight entertainment system's 18-inch screen is, the airline claims, the largest on a flight between North America and Australia.
If you're not one for screen time, you can whisk yourself away to the cabin's new business class bar, which is open after the flight's first meal service. The bar will also serve a continental breakfast before the full breakfast service, or you can eat your full breakfast at the bar instead of your seat.
It sounds pleasant at the moment, but it could just as easily descend into a smarmy pit of money and booze that ends in a sleepless night for those guests who just wanna pull down their eye mask and tap out.
The airline has also announced their new Economy Space + seats, located in the first five rows and the exit rows of the economy cabin. It offers up extra legroom, your own overhead space, guaranteed first meal choice, dedicated crew members on the flight and a noise-cancelling headset.
That's for an extra cost of A$135 to A$165 (US$99 to US$121) one-way, for those seeking a little bit of luxury without splurging. You won't get the private bar and you'll still have to wrestle the armrest off your greedy neighbour. It' sparkling wine on a beer budget.
