I make N10,000 daily- Fake Policeman confess
Policemen attached
to Iponri Division in Lagos State have arrested a 32-year-old fake policeman
who extorts money from commercial bus drivers in Costain area, raking in
N10,000 daily.
The suspect, Austine Okwuoke, clad in a police vest and a black
trouser, was said to have been into the shady act for close to six months until
luck ran against him yesterday.
When he was searched, N10,000, in rough-looking
N200, N100, N50 and N20 denominations, was recovered from his pockets.
He was
said to have introduced himself to members of the National Union of Road
Transport Workers, NURTW, at Costain as a member of a special team on road
patrol recently set up by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
However,
during investigation, it was discovered that he was neither a policeman nor a
member of any such outfit.
He said he continued with what he described as “a
lucrative business” because of the amount he made on daily basis.
When asked
how much he makes, he said: “I make an average of N10,000 a day from commercial
bus and truck drivers.”
Confirming the arrest, spokesperson for the state
Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, a Superintendent of Police, said the suspect
would soon be charged to court even as she admonished members of the public to
be wary of his likes.
She said: “The suspect is currently undergoing
interrogation with the command.
The command, hereby, urges members of the public to be vigilant and not to part with their hard-earned money to anyone who claims to be a policeman, or even wears police uniform, as the leadership of the force abhors any form of corruption.”
