The Ojomo of Warri kingdom and chairman, Warri traditional council, Chief Yaya Pessu, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday, November 10, in Warri, Delta state. He said that King Abiloye’s
coronation will be preceded by the final burial rites for his predecessor, HRM, Ogiame Atuwatse II.
Chief Pessu, joined by the Funeral/Coronation Publicity Committee, headed by Prince Yemi Emiko, said: “The final funeral rites for the late Olu will last 14 days from November 20. The day before, we will have a commendation night.
And by December 12, coronation of the Olu designate begins with a regatta at the Warri Club jetty before the rites at Ode-Itsekiri. We are expecting dignitaries from far and near and we enjoin all to cooperate with us throughout these special moments.”
Prince Emiko emerged Olu of Warri desingate after the first son of the late Olu of Warri, Prince Tsola Emiko was disqualified from succeeding his father because his mother is not Itsekiri.
Emiko, who is said to be about 60 years of age, is the younger brother to the late Atuwatse II, and a graduate of business administration from the University of Benin.
The late Olu of Warri, his royal highness, Godwin Edomi, Ogiame Atuwatse II, passed away on Saturday, September 5, from an undisclosed illness at a private hospital in Lagos state. He reigned for over 28 years.
