Nations Cup Qualifiers: Kanu warns Nigeria against distractions in Egypt clash
Former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, has warned against any form of distractions as Nigeria’s national team gets set for two crucial games against the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
Speaking with PREMIUM TIMES in Lagos, Kanu said the crisis around the change in leadership of the national team should not be a distraction, instead the players and coaches should make the best of the opportunity that has been availed them and make a name for themselves.
“I understand that many Nigerians are panicking because of this match because it is quite crucial to our qualification, my first advice is that the team needs to be fully focused and avoid any form of distractions,” the two-time African Footballer of the Year advised.
He continued: “The players need to see these games as an opportunity to make a name for themselves; with maximum concentration and dedication, I see the Eagles soaring over Egypt”
Kanu also advised the coaching crew led by Samson Siasia to pick the best legs for the Egypt games as he warned against banking on past glory by players.
Already, the Nigeria Football Federation, through its marketing department, has announced ticket prices for the Nigeria, Egypt 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match billed for the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Friday, March 25.
A press statement from the NFF on Thursday indicates that tickets will go for N1000 and N300 for covered seats and popular stand respectively.
The 25,000 –capacity arena has hosted several matches of the various National Teams over the past decades, and on-going renovation work geared towards improving its look and standard of facilities would be completed a week before the game.
Nigeria welcome Egypt on Day 3 of the series, starting from 4pm on Friday, March 25, with the return leg taking place in Alexandria four days later.
