N300m fraud: EFCC begins Akande’s probe May 23, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has started an investigation into the allegation of N300m fraud against the Chairman, Governing Council of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Mr. Niyi Akande.
The Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State had accused Akande and some other officials of the institution of fraud in a petition sent to the agency.
The commencement of investigation into the alleged fraud was contained in a letter of invitation sent by the anti-graft agency to the Chairman of the CSCEOS, Mr. Sulaiman Adeniyi.
Adeniyi made the letter available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.
The South-West Zonal Head of the EFCC, Akaninyene Ezima, in a letter dated May 13, 2016 with with reference No: CR: 3000/EFCC/ IB/T.C/VOL.1/80, had invited the group to appear before it to clarify some issues in the petition.
However, the management of the college had debunked the allegation of fraud against Akande and other officials accused of corruption, in a statement.
It stated that the allegation was a form of reprisal attack to silence Akande but said the council would not succumb to the smear campaign.
